When you reach the cap, you will hear an alert 'Unit Cap reached' and the count/cap text will become red to let you know that all construction has been paused for new units and buildings. Every building and land/air/naval/experimental unit in your army apart from your ACU and the Illuminate ACU's Rogue Nanites contributes towards this count. In multiplayer the Unit Cap is 200 for the Xbox version and 500 or 1000 for PC. In the campaign the Unit Cap is 250/300 (Xbox 360/PC) except during the first two UEF missions, where the cap starts at 150 and is increased later in the mission to 250, and the last UEF mission where the cap is 200 during the first section of the mission. Everything you do in the game will earn you research points which you then spend in the research tree, from here, you upgrade everything from unlocking new units and structures to upgrading the damage, etc, of a class of vehicles (air, land and sea).The Unit Cap is a limit on how many units/buildings you can field at any given time. Instead of what we're used to - upgrading the buildings which create the units - Supreme Commander 2 has taken the game down a slightly different route. The most complex part of any real time strategy game is the tech trees which you progress through while playing.

In the end, the campaign works as more of an advanced tutorial to the game's multiplayer experience. Each faction campaign has six missions, lasting anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on your style of play and overall speed. The campaign will entertain you for a significant amount of time. However Gas Powered Games has tried to make the game more personal and immersive by trying to make you more engrossed in the story.
